We all owe a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who served and sacrificed in our armed forces. The families of these service members also made sacrifices in service to our country. Our veterans have selflessly given to our country and it is our responsibility to uphold the promises we made when they return home.

In Congress, David has made it a priority to support our veterans and advance policies ensuring they have access to the resources and services they have earned. After hearing veterans in need were calling the Veterans Crisis Line and no one was answering, David took action and introduced a bill to make sure our veterans calls were answered. The No Veterans Crisis Line Call Should Go Unanswered Act passed Congress, was signed into law by President Obama and fixed the Veterans Crisis Line so when a veteran calls, they get the help they need. Our veterans answered our nation’s call to service and David delivered to make sure their calls were answered.

David is also working to increase access to care at the Shenandoah Community-Based Outpatient Clinic. David continues to speak directly to the Veterans Administration advocating for expanded services at this critical community clinic.

As Iowa’s only voice on the Appropriations Committee, David has secured historic funding for the VA – especially for veterans health and benefits – while reforming the agency to be more accountable for veterans.
